Dark Bloom

1. Tell us about how you began your journey as an author - Where did it all start?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, mostly poetry and short stories. It wasn’t until 2022 that I decided to try my hand at writing my own book after listening to a Stephen King audiobook. His writing and storytelling really inspired me to start my own novel and to tell my own story.

2. Have you found that indie publishing has given you broader scope to write really horrifying material?

Not so much horrifying material, but it allows me to write about what I want. I’m not smothered by the requirements of a publisher or the demands of trends.

3. Slow zombies or fast zombies? Science zombies or magic zombies? Infected or undead?

I’m going to choose my answers based on Dark Bloom. Fast, science, and infected. Slow zombies seem too easy to defeat. Dark Bloom has zombies that run, climb, and open doors. That is terrifying. Science zombies are more interesting when there’s a cause because that opens up possibilities. Maybe there could be a cure. Maybe there could be mutations. And infected rather than undead because undead means the body organs and functions have stopped and the body is just carrying itself around out of necessity. Infected means the body is fully functional, just transformed, and this fact again opens up possibilities.

4. If you could give some advice to a new writer in the indie community, what would it be?

Write your story the way you want. Publishing is exciting, but don’t rush it. Take your time to do things the right way. And hire your editor twice.
